Amgen Tour of California – Blogging in paradise
The rolling circus that is a multi-day stage race started and to be honest I missed it. Those who know me can probably remember how I was saying in September how I was tired of the traveling and I just wanted to stay at home. But as the dates for the Amgen Tour of California got closer, the more excited I became. I had forgotten about the long days and mediocre food in the press room. The only thing I can think of to describe it is like giving birth; it’s a lot of trouble and you swear you’re not doing it again, but once time passes that is all forgotten and only the good memories remain.
One of those good memories is the crowds that come out in full force to the stages. Nevada City was jammed packed with fans of all types, from the serious tifosi who could name all of Tom Boonen’s victories, to the guy with a foam anvil taped to the top of his bike helmet claiming this was Lance Armstrong’s secret weight training method. And yes, I did interview him on video.
