Team RadioShack or Best Buy?
Back in July it was announced that RadioShack was going to sponsor a ProTour team with recent third place finisher of the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong, at the helm. This was something we as American cycling fans could wrap out heads around. RadioShack is a Texas based company and is one of the oldest retail stores, founded in 1921. The reason for the sponsorship was the same as any other company – getting people to be aware of the brand. Press release announced that they were going to change the names of their stores to The Shack as an effort to shed its public perception as just a place to get inexpensive batteries and low-quality electronic equipment. The name “RadioShack” itself is dated. Aren’t we in the age of wifi and 3G? RadioShack reminds me of Radar from M.A.S.H. adjusting dials and trying to get a signal through the static.
